Albert Einstein (14 March 1879 – 18 April 1955) was a theoretical physicist born in Germany who founded relativity theory, one of the two foundations of modern physics (alongside quantum mechanics). His dissertation is also known for its influence on scientific theory. He is best known to the general public for his theorem {\displaystyle E = mc^{2}E = mc^2, called "the most popular equation in the world." He was awarded the 1921 Nobel Prize in Physics "for his theoretical physics work, and in particular for his discovery of the photoelectric effect theorem," a seminal step in the advancement of quantum theory.
