Andie MacDowell was born on 21 April 1958 to Pauline Johnston (Oswald), a music teacher, Rosalie Anderson MacDowell, and Marion St. Pierre MacDowell, a lumber executive, in Gaffney, South Carolina. She was educated at Rock Hill, South Carolina, Winthrop College. Initially noticed while on a holiday to Los Angeles by a rep from Wilhelmina Models.Subsequently signed in 1978 with Elite Model Management in New York. Premiered feature role in Greystoke (1984). Went on to learn the acting form at Actors Studio. Had commercial success with appearances in Groundhog Day (1993) by Harold Ramis, and Four Weddings and a Funeral by Mike Newell (1994).
