André Morell was born as Cecil André Mesritz on 20 August 1909 in St. Pancras, London, England. He was an actor, known as Ben-Hur (1959), The River Kwai Bridge (1957), and The Message (1976). Joan Greenwood was married. He died in London on 28 November 1978.Before being chosen to play in Quatermass and the Pit (1958) as Professor Bernard Quatermass, he had been the first choice for the role prior to development of The Quatermass Experiment (1953), but had turned it down. Following Tate's sudden death on 23 August 1955, he was again offered the role in Quatermass II (1955) but for the second time turned it down.
