Andy Griffith became best remembered in two very famous TV shows, The Andy Griffith Show (1960) and Matlock (1986) for his starring roles. Griffith graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a degree in Art. He was a regular on The Ed Sullivan Show (1948) and on The Steve Allen Plymouth Show (1956) in the 1950s. He was featured in the Broadway play "No Time for Sergeants" (1955), for which he was nominated for a Tony, and he also starred in the movie version. His film debut was in the controversial and visionary A Face in the Crowd (1957), in which Griffith gave a brilliant score. Griffith played a folksy little-town sheriff on The Andy Griffith Show (1960), sharing plain, sincere advice. The show has become one of history's most famous television shows. It produced several popular spin-offs, and to this day, the original is still seen in reruns. In 1972, Griffith founded his own production company which produced several films and TV shows.
