He was the founding host of the comedic panel game Have I Got News for You, a role he was fired from after a second series of newspaper reports regarding his personal life in October 2002. He was also Uk talk show host Should I Lie to You? From 2007 until 2008. He also starred in the sitcom series One Foot in the Grave with Victor Meldrew's long-suffering neighbor Patrick Trench, and in the final three episodes of Waterloo Road with George Windsor.
