Ansel Elgort is an American actor, known for portraying Augustus Waters in The Fault in Our Stars romance (2014), and the title role in the Baby Driver action thriller (2017). He was born in New York City to painter Arthur Elgort and opera director Grethe Holby. His father is of Russian-Jewish descent, while his mother has ancestry from Norway and the British Isles. As a boy, Ansel tried out for the American Ballet School and attended the summer camp at Stagedoor Manor and the high school at Fiorello H. LaGuardia. He began his professional stage acting career, appearing in the play "Regrets" by Matt Charman which was performed off-Broadway.
