Art Carney was a long career American actor who is known mainly for two roles. In tv, Carney starred in the popular comedy "The Honeymooners" (1955-1956) with local sewage worker Ed Norton. In video, Carney in the road movie "Harry and Tonto" (1974) played senior citizen Harry Coombes. Carney won the Academy Award for Best Actor for this role. Carney was born in Mount Vernon, New York, in 1918 into an Irish American family. His father was Edward Michael Carney a publicist, and his mother was Helen Farrell a housewife. Carney was the eldest of the six members of the family. He had been educated at Mount Vernon High School ("A.B. Davis High School" at the time).
