Betta St. John is the american playwright, singer and dancer. St Jean, originally from Hawthorne, California, was a member of Meglin Kiddi's troupe. She debuted at DestrY Rides Again as a child at age 10 and made her film debut at Jane Eyre. In 1929 the former Betty Striegler had been born as a young man at Hawthorne, California. She made her debut at 10 as a girl in the Western Destry Rides Again (1939) classical who sings the song "Young Joe," by Marlene Dietrich. She starred in a short Our Gang and Jane Eyre (1943) while playing a second unknown part. Rodgers and Hammerstein noticed this young, lovely singer-dancer-talent and casted it on the "Carousel" part in 1945.
