As she became the first African-American woman to pose on American Vogue's cover in August 1974, Johnson soared to fame. In 1975 Johnson was the first black woman to pose on the cover of Elle's French version. In 2012, Johnson became the host of Beverly's Full House television show.Johnson attended high school in Bennett, and graduated in 1969. Johnson later went on to study social justice at Northeastern University after high school. Johnson attempted modeling while at college, during the 1971 summer break. With Glamour she soon landed an assignment and started working steadily.
