Paul Bruce Dickinson (born August 7, 1958) is an English singer, songwriter, guitarist, airline pilot, businessman, journalist, and radio broadcaster. He is known for his role as the lead singer in the Iron Maiden heavy metal band, and is renowned for his wide-ranging vocal operatic style and energetic stage presence. Based in Worksop, Nottinghamshire, Dickinson started his music career in the 1970's in front of small pub bands while attending Sheffield school and London university. He joined British new wave heavy metal band Samson in 1979, gaining success with them under the stage name "Bruce Bruce" and appearing on two studio albums.
