Her most recurring notable roles were in Vulnerable, Stranger Things and Homeland. Curtin was born in New York City, and raised. She made her Broadway debut in 1990 and starred in Six Degrees of Separation's original version. She performed in several Off-Broadway plays the following years, including Janis Joplin's title role in Love, Janis, for which she was nominated for the Joseph Jefferson Award.
