Cecile de France was born in 1975 in Namur, Belgium, and found out about her vocation at the early age of six. She went going to Paris as soon as she turned seventeen, with the ambition of beginning a stage career. She studied drama with Peter Brook's actor and assistant Jean-Paul Denizon before being admitted to the Ecole nationale supérieure des arts et techniques du théâtre, where she complemented her preparatory training with fencing, dancing, singing and masking lessons.
