Founded in Cambridge and born in Start Hill, Essex, in 2008 she began sharing songs on Myspace, which led to her discovery by a promoter who invited her to play at raves and parties in warehouse.She signed a recording deal with Asylum Records in 2010, releasing a series of singles and mixtapes in 2011 and 2012. Charli XCX soared to fame in 2013 with the "I Love It" Icona Pop collaboration, which was an worldwide success, reaching the top 10 in North America and Europe.
