Born and raised in Newcastle upon Tyne, she achieved fame in late 2002 when she won a spot in Girls Aloud, a girls group produced by ITV's Popstars: The Rivals. Still with the party, she started a solo career with April 2009, releasing four studio albums between then and 2014 – 3 Terms (2009), Dirty Little Raindrops (2010), A Million Lights (2012) and Only Human (2014). The songs were collectively made up of ten tracks, five of which – "Fight for This Love," "Promise This," "Say My Name," "Crazy Dumb Love" and "I Don't Know" – hit the top positives.
