Courtney Michelle Love (born July 9, 1964) is an American singer, songwriter and actor. Love's career spanned four decades as a figure in the rock and grunge movements of the 1990's. As the lead vocalist of the experimental rock band Pit, which she founded in 1989, she has achieved notoriety. Love gained media attention with her uninhibited live shows and words of conflict.Born in San Francisco to countercultural parents, Love had an itinerant upbringing, but was raised mainly in Portland, Oregon, where she performed in a string of short-lived bands, and became active in the local punk scene. She spent a year living in Dublin and Liverpool before returning to the United States after being briefly in a juvenile facility, and was cast in the Alex Cox films Sid and Nancy (1986)
