Melvin Richard "Dakin" Matthews (born 7 November 1940) is an American actor, playwright, producer, and scholar of theatre.Melvin Richard Matthews is a native of Oakland , California. At first, he wanted to become a Roman Catholic priest, studying in San Francisco and then in the 1960s at the University of Gregor in Rome. His increased interest in drama however led him to the Juilliard School, where he taught Kevin Kline and Patti LuPone, among others.
