Deborah Kerr, the daughter of Captain Arthur Kerr-Trimmer, was born on 30 September 1921 in Helensburgh, Scotland. She was educated at Clifton, Bristol, Northumberland College. She appeared at Regent's Park, London, for the first time. She was also at the Oxford Repertory Company between 1939 and 1940. Her first performance on the West End stage was in 1943 at the Cambridge Theatre as Ellie Dunn in the Heartbreak Hotel. She was working with the ENSA (ENAS, meaning "Every Night Something Awful") — The British Army Entertainment Services in Germany, Belgium, and Holland. From its first appearance in Major Barbara (1941) she has starred in many movies.
