When she was six years old, Della started singing in her hometown of Detroit. She went to Las Vegas casinos when she was a teenager to the great Mahalia Jackson with music, joining the Meditation Songers at the age of 18. She was a vocalist with the Erskine Hawkins Orchestra and started to record herself. She has received a Grammy Award.
