Douglas Osborne McClure (May 11, 1935–February 5, 1995) was an American actor whose film and television career lasted between the 1950s and the 1990s. He is best remembered for his appearance as the outlaw Trampas during the entire NBC Western series run from 1962 to 1971, The Virginian, loosely based on the book Owen Wister.McClure was originally born in Glendale, California. His English mother, Clara Elsie (born Barker; 1907–1997), had moved from her native United Kingdom to the United States in 1915, when her widowed mother married Frank S Artman, an American. In 1918 Clara Barker became naturalized as an American citizen, and in 1929 she married the Irish-American Donald Reed McClure (1904–1965).
