Her dad, as the son of actors John Barrymore and Dolores Costello, came from a long showbusiness background, while her mother was the daughter of Hungarian refugees. In light of a tumultuous childhood, Barrymore's career was reportedly on the rise in the mid-1990s; after a series of 'evil girl' roles in Poison Ivy (1992), Guncrazy (1992), and, yes, Poor Girls (1994), she made notable contributions in Boys on the Side (1995), Woody Allen's Everybody Says I Love You (1996), and the game-changing horror smash Scream (1996).
