Eddie Asner (born 15 November 1929), also known as Edward Asner, is an American actor, voice artist, and former Screen Actors Guild member. He is remembered mainly for his appearance as Lou Grant in both The Mary Tyler Moore Show and its spin-off series Lou Grant during the 1970s and early 1980s, making him one of the few television stars to play the same character in such a sitcom. Having received seven, five for playing Lou Grant (three as Supporting Actor in a Comedy Television Show and two as Lead Actor in a Dramatic Television Series) he is the most awarded male artist in the history of the Primetime Emmy Awards.
