Mary Elle Fanning was born on April 9, 1998 to Heather Joy (Arrington) and Steven J. Fanning in Conyers, Georgia, United States. Her mother was playing professional tennis and her brother, now an electronics dealer, was playing baseball in the minor league. She is of descent from Italian, Irish, Scottish, French and Channel Islands. Elle's rise to stardom started when she was nearly three years old, when she played her sister's younger version, Dakota Fanning's, character Lucy in the drama film I Am Sam (2001). She then again played younger Dakota as Allie, 3, in Taken (2002). But her first big independent feature without her sister was as Jamie in 2003's Daddy Day Care (2003).
