Her awards include Best Actress for The Young Girl and the Monsoon (1999) at the AFI and Best Supporting Actress at the Dolores Claiborne (1995) Japanese Film Festival.Her father, Dr. Erich Muth, was the year's national optician. Has a whole museum named after him, has written numerous optics books from which he's contributing the proceeds to The Erich Muth Scholarship; he's donating a portion at the Smithsonian Museum. Her mum, Rachel Muth, encouraged Ellen to be an actress by taking her to all her auditions until she was eighteen.
