Emily Maitlis (born 6 September 1970) is a BBC writer, documentary-maker and newsreader from Britain and Canada. She hosts Newsnight's news and current affairs coverage for BBC Two, which also covers BBC elections in the UK, the US and Europe. She was the acting Newsnight political editor in January 2014 when she briefly replaced Allegra Stratton, who had taken maternity leave before later that year, and headed an all-female line-up in 2019.
