Eric Braeden (born Hans-Jörg Gudegast; 3 April 1941) is a American film and television actor, known for his role as Victor Newman on the soap opera The Young and the Restless, as Hans Dietrich in the 1960s television series The Rat Patrol, Dr. Charles Forbin in Colossus: The Forbin Project, and as John Jacob Astor IV in the 1997 film Titanic.Braeden was born in Bredenbek, Germany (near Kiel) to Hans-Jörg Gudegast, a city in northern Germany where his father once was mayor. In 1959 he moved to the united states, and graduated from Montana College, Missoula.
