Frederick Charles Jones (12 September 1927 – 9 July 2019) was an English actor who for almost sixty years enjoyed an lengthy career in film, theater, and cinema productions. He was best known in the theater for having invented Sir's part in The Dresser; in film, he was best known for his role as circus ringmaster Bytes in The Elephant Man (1980); and in television, he was best known for playing Sandy Thomas in the ITV soap opera.Jones won a scholarship at Speech and Drama's Rose Bruford Training College — where he lost his accent on the midlands. He spent time with the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) in Lincoln rep before making his London debut in 1962, appearing at the Arts Theatre in Afore Night Come.
