Garrett Richard Wang was born to Chinese immigrant parents on 15 December 1968 in Riverside, Calif. He spent their childhood on the run with his sister Laura. He lived in Indiana before moving to Bermuda and Tennessee. Later, he graduated from Harding Academy High School, Memphis, and moved to Los Angeles to attend UCLA where he majored in Asian studies.
