George Cole OBE was a British veteran films, television and stage performer whose remarkable career spanned more than 60 years. To others, perhaps he may be best known to portraying one of British TV's most endearing roles in modern years, "Arthur Daley," the shifty but still likable "business guy" in the hit ITV drama show, Minder (1979).Cole had long been a household name, though, even before "Minder" appeared on TV. His successful film career started in the 1940s, starring in the film Bombsight Robbed (1941), with Alastair Sim and Sir John Mills.
