Gina was born in the small mountain town of Smithers, British Columbia, where at age five she appeared for the first time at a figure skating show. Since then she has been at the center stage at home. Gina appeared in all her school plays and talent shows as a precocious and outgoing child. Through most of these early years when she traveled with her mother and older brother, her first love was dance.
