The parents Tony Palmer and Janine Morrell were born in Tai Tapu, New Zealand, both TV producers. Palmer has a high-school theater and even moved to Sydney, Australia to take classes in plays while at the bar. She is of Māori and New Zealand European descent.A guest appearance as Monique Wu on Australian show Home and Away, Palmer's first television role, came in 2014. Between 2014 through 2017 she played her most important television role on Shortland Street as Lucy Rickman. In her 2018 film, Adrift, starring Shailene Woodley and Sam Claflin, she made her Hollywood debut as Deb.
