Griffin Dunne was born in New York City on 8 June 1955, the eldest child of Dominick Dunne, a producer, actor and journalist, and activist Ellen Beatriz (Griffin) Dunne. His niece, Dominique Dunne, was actress. He grew up mainly in Los Angeles, California, and attended Colorado college, before moving back to New York in the late 1970s. Dunne, as an actor, has the distinction of having appeared in two beloved cults of the 1980s. First came the horror thriller John Landis An American Werewolf in London (1981) and then the dark comedy Martin Scorsese After Hours (1985).
