Keitel had the leading role in Mean Streets (1973) by Scorsese, which also proved to be the breakthrough film by Robert De Niro. Keitel re-teamed Scorsese for Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore (1974), in which he played a villainous supporting role, and starred in Scorsese's Taxi Driver (1976) with Robert De Niro once more.
