Born in Havering Borough of London, Heap was a young man who studied classically in piano, cello and clarinet.At the age of 13 she began to write songs and taught herself guitar and drums as well as music on Atari machines while she was a boarding school. Heap signed an independent record label Alma Sounds when he was 18 and later joined Guy Sigsworth, a frequent guest vocalist, through experimental pop band Acacia.
