Jaime Lee Kirchner was born in Berlin to a black mother and a white father of Austrian origin. She considers herself as ' mixed ' Jaime began acting in Tennessee's The Roxy Regional Theater at the age of 8. Kirchner's first big break came when she was just 17, and only in high school.She went to an open-call audition for the Broadway musical "Rent" where she was picked for callbacks in New York City, along with only one person. Kirchner finally landed the part of "Mimi" on tour in the USA and Japan after more than four years of auditioning for "Rent."
