Jeffrey Hunter was born to New Orleans, Louisiana, the only child of Henry Herman McKinnies Jr. on November 25, 1926. When he was almost four, his families moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin. his family met at the University of Arkansas.Throughout his youth, he played with local Port Players and Eileen Heckart, Charlotte Rae and Morton DaCosta in the North Shore Children's Theater from 1942 to 1944. In the wartime show "All Who Serve," in 1945, Hunter was an actor on WTMJ radio, even having his first professional paycheck.
