How tall was Jock Mahoney?
Mahoney and some Cherokees came from French and Irish extraction. He was outstanding in diving, baseball, and football at the University of Iowa. He enlisted as a Marine fighter pilot and instructor after World War II exploded. He became a noted stunt man in Hollywood, doubling for Errol Flynn, John Wayne and Gregory Peck. In his 78-episode The Range Rider (1951), Gene Autry has signed him for the leadAs Tarzan, he attempted to replace Johnny Weissmuller but lost to Lex Barker. In 1960, in Gordon Scott's Tarzan the Magnificent (1960), he played the heavy, and his performance there prompted Sy Weintraub to recruit him as a replacement for Scott.
