Joseph Matthew Alwyn is an English actor (born 21 February 1991) . He has appeared in movies including Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk (2016), The Favorite (2018) and Harriet (2019), among others. Within two weeks of his graduation debut, at the beginning of 2015, Alwyn was cast in the leading role of Ang Lee's 2016 war film, Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk based on Ben Fountain's novel. In 2017, he played a supporting role in the English film The Meaning of an Ending . He starred in 2018 in Operation Finale, The Favourite, Child Erased and Mary Queen of Scots, in the period drama films. In 2019, in the biographical film Harriet, he co-starred as slave master Gideon Brodess on the abolitionist Harriet Tubman who had his world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 10.
