How tall was John Cassavetes?
John Cassavetes was an actor, film producer, screenwriter and Greek-American. He is considered a pioneer in independent American film, sometimes funding his own movies. Cassavetes was born 1929 to Nicholas John Cassavetes and his aunt, Katherine Demetre (1906-1983), in New York City. Nicholas was a Greek immigrant, though Katherine was Greek-American and was raised in New York City. In the early 1930s, the Cassavetes family fled to Greece, and John studied Greek as his main language. The family moved to the U.S. c. 1936, probably to escape the current tyranny of Greece, the 4th Government of August (1936-1941). John, seven, has had to learn to speak English.
