How tall was John Garfield?

John Garfield was born to Jacob Julius Garfinkle on New York City's Lower East Side, and to Hannah Basia (Margolis) and David Garfinkle, Jewish immigrants from Zhytomyr (now in Ukraine). Following his mother's death in 1920, when he was 7, Jules was raised by his father, a clothes presser and part-time cantor.He was assigned to a special school for children with disabilities, where boxing and acting were added. He received a scholarship to the drama school of Maria Ouspenskaya. In 1932, he entered the Civic Repertory Theatre, changing his name to Jules Garfield and making his Broadway debut as the counselor-at-Law of the company.
