How tall was John Gregson?
John Gregson, a retired telecommunications technician who dabbled with amateur theatre, worked in the Royal Navy on board a minesweeper during World War II. He entered the Liverpool Old Vic upon demobilization, making his stage debut in ' The Knight of the Burning Pestle '. He moved to London, newly married, and worked at the West End Criterion Theatre in 1947 opposite Robert Donat and Margaret Leighton in the show ' A Sleeping Clergyman '. He was also cast in his first film, the romantic era melodrama Saraband (1948), around the same time span, but his scenes were eventually cut. Undeterred, in subsequent Ealing comedies Gregson established himself as a famous star, and later as a long-term contractor with the Rank Organization.
