John Mahoney was an American actor who has received the award. Born in Blackpool, Lancashire, England, Margaret's seventh of eight girls, and a baker, Reg. His family was evacuated to the resort on the seafront to escape their native Manchester's Nazi bombing.During the war the Mancunian Mahoneys eventually returned to Manchester. The young Mahoney wanted to emigrate and was supported by his family as they toured the States to meet his older son, a "war bride" who had married an American. John eventually won his citizenship by serving in the U.S. Army.
