John Clayton Mayer (born 16 October 1977) is an American singer-songwriter and record producer Born in Bridgeport, Connecticut, Mayer attended Berklee College of Music in Boston then disenrolled and moved with Clay Cook to Atlanta in 1997. Together, they founded a two-man short-lived band called Lo-Fi Masters.He was signed to Aware Records after his performance at the South by Southwest Festival in 2001, and then to Columbia Records, which released his first ep, Inside Wants Out. His next two full-length albums— Room for Squares (2001) and Heavier Things (2003)—have become successful commercially, reaching multiplatinum status.
