Raised in New York City on 25 June 1925, the daughter of actors Gene Lockhart and Kathleen Lockhart, June Lockhart made her professional debut in the Metropolitan Opera production of "Peter Ibbetson" at the age of eight, portraying Mimsey in the dream sequence. The Lockharts moved to California in the mid-1930s, where father Gene enjoyed a long career as one of the best character actors on the screen.June made her film debut in MGM's A Christmas Carol (1938) version, playing — appropriately enough the star's daughter Gene Lockhart and Kathleen Lockhart. Before 1947 June starred in a dozen or so movies before she made her Broadway bow playing the ingénue in John Loder's comedy "For Love or Money."
