How tall was Karen Carpenter?
Karen Anne Carpenter (March 2, 1950-February 4, 1983) was an American singer and drummer who was part of the Carpenters duo along with her older brother Richard. She had been lauded for her vocal repertoire of 3-octave contralto. Some artists and reviewers have regarded her drumming abilities favorably. Her eating addiction issues will later increase awareness of anorexia and body dysmorphia. Carpenter, who was born in New Haven, Connecticut, moved with her family to Downey, California in 1963. Since graduation she began practicing the drums in high school and joined the Long Beach State Choir. The Carpenters were signed to A&M Records in 1969 after many years of touring and recording, and enjoyed commercial and critical success in the 1970s.
