Kate O'Mara was born on 10th August 1939 in Leicester, Leicestershire, England, to Frances Meredith Carroll. Kate was the daughter of the actress Hazel Bainbridge and John Carroll, a hard-looking brunette with high cheekbones and prodded into acting as a child. Educated at the Aida Foster School, she started her early career as a speech therapist at a Sussex Girls ' School, but she was drawn to performingand she switched gears, making her debut in a stage production of "The Merchant of Venice" in 1963 at age 24.
