Kehlani Ashley Parrish is an American rapper, songwriter and dancer (born April 24, 1995). Originally from Oakland, California, Kehlani gained initial fame as a member of the Poplyfe teenage party.She released her first commercial mixtape, Cloud 19, in 2014.The mixtape was listed as one of the Complex's ' 50 Best Albums of 2014. ' Her second commercial mixtape, You Should Be Here (2015), debuted at number 5 on the R&B / Hip-Hop chart, followed by her sold-out North American promotional tour. In 2016 she was nominated for the Grammy Award for her Best Urban Contemporary Album. When her mother, who had a heroin problem, spent time in jail, she was adopted and raised by her aunt. Kehlani's father, who also had a drug addiction, died when she was a child. She attended the Oakland School for the Arts during her teenage years where she originally studied dance, especially ballet and modern dance.
