After winning the first season of American Idol, she rose to fame in 2002, which secured her a record contract with RCA Records. Clarkson's debut song, "A Moment Like This," toped the US Billboard Hot 100 chart and was the best-selling 2002 song in the world. The release of her debut studio album, Thankful (2003), which debuted atop the US Billboard 200, followed. In an effort to reinvent her profile, for her second album, Breakaway (2004), Clarkson parted ways with Idol management and moved to pop rock music.
