Before there was a George Lucas and Harrison Ford roaming around generating anticipation for special effects, there was a virile, boyishly attractive actor named Kerwin Mathews who was dazzling crowds fighting a number of monsters courtesy of pioneer expert Ray Harryhausen for special effects.Harryhausen's iconic creatures of the late fifties and early sixties gained infamy for cult film, and it was those fantastic storybook dreams and the Harryhausen connection that also brought Kerwin on the Hollywood map.Born in Seattle, Washington, on January 8, 1926, when he was very young, Kerwin's parents split up and he and his mother moved to Janesville, Wisconsin. He developed an early interest in acting in high school plays while performing.
