Her parents, John Stewart and Jules Stewart, work both in film and TV. Her mum is an Australian. She appeared on television in a few small roles after a talented scout caught her Grade School performance in a Christmas play at the age of eight. Her first significant role came when she was cast in The Safety of Objects (2001) as Sam Jennings. Soon after that she starred in the hit drama, Panic Room (2002) alongside Jodie Foster, and was nominated for a Young Artist Award.
