Kurt Donald Cobain (February 20, 1967-April 5, 1994) was an American singer, songwriter, and composer better known as the Nirvana rock band's guitarist and front man. Considered an symbol of Generation X, he's considered one of the most popular and influential punk artists in alternative music history. Raised in Aberdeen, Washington, in 1987 Cobain founded the Nirvana band with Krist Novoselic and Aaron Burckhard and developed it as part of the music scene in Seattle which later became known as grunge. Nirvana has achieved worldwide recognition with "Smells Like Teen Spirit" from their highly acclaimed second album Nevermind (1991), having signed with major label DGC Records.
